A warm welcome back to the new term here in Year 2. We hope you had a fantastic summer!
This year all of our topics are based around film and theatre.
Our topics throughout the Autumn Term are 'Toy Story' and 'The Polar Express'.
In this history-based topic, we will be learning about popular toys through the 20th century and the early 21st century. Children will think about their favourite toy from today before moving on to look at toys which were popular when their parents and grandparents were children. Throughout the topic, the children will develop a range of historical skills through lots of different learning activities such as discussions, role play, games and writing tasks.
As a parent/carer, if you or you know anyone who has some toys and would like to bring them in or talk about them with our class then please get in touch!
The Polar Express
Throughout this Christmas-themed topic, children will learn about the development of travel and transport throughout history. Alongside consolidating the children's understanding of chronology through using timelines and making comparisons between old and new forms of transport, the topic focuses on early travel methods of the Vikings, through to the invention of cars, trains and aeroplanes. It also looks at the significant individuals George Stephenson and the Wright brothers.
