Literacy/Communication and Language
During literacy this half term, we will enjoy stories, poems and non-fiction texts associated with our world and Autumn. Speaking and listening will be an important focus, which will include rhyme, story telling and understanding story structure. We will also begin our Read Write Inc phonics programme, starting with initial sounds and learning how to 'Fred talk'!
Our maths learning for the first half term will focus on beginning to develop a deep understanding of numbers to 5. We will compare quantities in different contexts, recognising when one quantity is the same as, more than or less than another and practise subitising.
PSED: We will begin with the theme 'Being Me in my World'. We will think about forming positve relationships, helping others feel welcome and understanding our own feelings and the feelings of others.
Expressive Art and Design: Our music sessions this half term will focus on the theme 'ME'. The children will enjoy listening and responding to different styles of music, learn a range of simple rhymes and songs and begin to use a range of classroom instruments. Art activities will include exploring and using paint and using natural art to create self portraits.
Understanding the World: We will think about the season of Autumn and the changes that occur in the environment. The children will also begin Forest School sessions, becoming familiar with the woodland rules, routines and exciting learning opportunities. We will also consider the people that are special to us and the things that make other people special.
Physical Development: This area of learning is supported on a daily basis within continuous provision, with activities and opportunities available to encourage and support both fine and gross motor skills. Additionally, we will enjoy music and movement sessions, parachute games and ring games in the outdoor area.
