Autumn Term: 2020

Updated: Oct 10, 2020

We have two amazing topics lined up for this term!

Autumn 1: Amazing America

In our Geography based topic, we will be exploring the North and South American continents, and learning to distinguish between the terms ‘continent’, ‘region’, ‘country’, ‘state’ and ‘city’ along the journey. Finding and using images and maps on the internet and in atlases, we will make notes on cities and record their countries and/or states. We will compare the built environments and settings of the cities and, through them, identify some key regions of the American continents.

In English, we are focusing on 'Space Explorers' - a non-fiction unit all about an incredible American, Neil Armstrong, and his journey to space!

Autumn 2: Volume Up!

In this Science-based topic, we will work towards answering the question, ‘How can we make different sounds?’ We will identify and describe different sounds, and use musical instruments and household materials to investigate the range of ways of producing sounds and how the pitch and volume of a sound can be altered. We will investigate by creating our own instruments and looking at the pattern between the volume of a sound and the strength of vibrations which produced it. We will have the opportunity to create a short soundtrack for a piece of film!

In English, we are going to be looking at some scary stories in the fiction unit 'Sounds Spooky'. We are going to be working towards the end task; recording our own super spooky podcasts!
