Maths through Stories

Year 6 took part in a special learning day around maths through a story. We had already read 'Holes' by Louis Sachar and our day was based around this book with a focus on measurement. The children first calculated the volume of Stanley's hole in feet and cm and then calculated the weight of one cm cube and used this to work out the weight of soil Stanley would have had to dig in one week, one month and 18 months - it was a lot!

The children also completed extra problem solving tasks linked to the book.
