First, we would like to thank you for your understanding and cooperation during the difficult time of COVID-19. We are aware that the decision for school closures has not been taken likely but has been deemed necessary by our government to reduce the spreading of the virus. Mrs Harvey would also like to let you know how fortunate we are that we are able to still provide an education for our pupils through the use of 1:1 iPads and having teachers on call during school hours.
In order to ensure our pupils education is affected as little as possible we have put together various guides on how you can support your child(ren) at home. We are aware that some of the applications and websites will be new to you and the guides have been designed so that you, as a parent/carer, are able to promote learning on the platforms that the pupils use throughout their daily routine at school.
Furthermore, teachers have been given a class email address that you are able to use to contact them between the hours of 9.00am - 3.15pm. In addition to this, if you feel that your child(ren) are finding a piece of work difficult you will be able to message them directly through Showbie. Our teaching staff will be actively responding to these messages to ensure our pupils learning is still to the highest of standards. The class email addresses are stated below:
Showbie is an online portfolio that allows students to access and upload their work to their class teacher and is a safe and secure digital platform. We are aware that students learn best when feedback is both unique and personal and will therefore be using this to continue to provide your child(ren) with work for the subjects they study in school. There will be a timetable uploaded to Showbie that you can access via the pupil account so that you are aware which lessons should be being completed and at what time. Your child(ren) will already have Showbie installed on their iPad and have had their log in details sent home so they can access this on any mobile or electronic device. For you to communicate with your child’s teacher, you can leave a comment by typing a message in one of the lesson assignments. Below is a screenshot of where you are able to type this but please can you write your name after your message so that the teacher is aware it is a message from a parent and not the pupil:
Active Learn is used to provide your child with the opportunity to access reading and comprehension resources as well as documents that may be required to complete their English lessons. This can be accessed by going to www.activelearnprimary.co.uk on your internet browser. If your child is required to log in to Active Learn, the class teacher will inform them via Showbie. Your child(ren) should already know their Active Learn log in details but if they are unsure of this, please do not hesitate to contact the class teacher so that they are able to email or message these over to you.
TimesTables Rockstars and Numbots
Times Tables Rock Stars is a carefully sequenced programme of daily times tables practice. This is an excellent application that develops your child(ren)’s Times Tables skills. These are an essential aspect of mathematical learning and all times tables up to x12 should be learnt, especially by Year 4 as there is a national test, and are crucial throughout a range of subjects.
Numbots is an application that provides support and develops your child(ren)’s understanding and knowledge of methods such as addition and subtraction. This has proven to be influential in providing our pupils with outstanding education and we would be grateful if this continued to take place whilst the school is closed.
To access both of these please visit https://ttrockstars.com or https://play.numbots.com/#/intro and your child can log in using the username and password they have been provided. Alternatively, your child can use the application that is installed on their iPad to access this. Your child(ren)’s Times Table Rock Stars log in is used to access both of these.
Spelling Shed helps children to practise their spellings via a simple game. The game gives four different degrees of support in the form of difficulty modes; Easy, Medium, Hard and Extreme. Higher levels allow a higher score to be achieved but children can practise as much as they like on lower levels before trying to gain high scores. The scores achieved give a league position and each class has its own league position within a school league and Spelling Shed's world league.
Your child can then use their log in information (which is in their yellow home learning book) they can access our online game via https://play.spellingshed.com.
The class will be able to access spellings that are appropriate for them throughout the period of the school closure.
Epic is an excellent resource that can be used to promote learning for your child(ren). Please access this for your child by following this link (https://www.getepic.com/students) and then enter the class code: ncn7658. Your child then has unlimited access to a wide range of reading material.
Finally, we are aware that some children will not have access to technology at home. If your child requires the use of their school iPad we are loaning the devices so that they can be used during the school closure. However, for your child(ren) to take the device home tomorrow (Friday 20th March) you will be required to sign the form below and send this into school with your child.
