Special Learning Days

Throughout the year, there will be a number of special occasions and celebrations that we will think about in Reception. These will be shared here for you to see what we have been doing in class.

Friday 7th May - NSPCC Number Day

We had a fabulous day in class today celebrating Number Day. There were lots of great Number Day outfits and costumes and various number themed activities. Our favourite part of the day was completing Buddy's (the NSPCC mascot) number challenge. We talked about who Buddy is and why he is special. Buddy even came into class to say hello and bring everyone a prize from the treasure chest.

Friday 13th November - Children in Need

Today in reception class we thought about Children in Need. We came to school in special clothes - something spotty or something yellow - everyone looked amazing! We talked about what Children in Need day is and enjoyed a Pudsey Bear story. We also had a go at some special challenges such as colouring Pudsey bears, filling Pudsey bear with coins and creating a huge collage Pudsey bear. A most enjoyable day was had, and lots of money raised for this special day.

Wednesday 11th November - Remembrance Day

We watched a special clip today to help us understand why people wear poppies. After this, we made our own fabulous poppies which you can see on the photograph below - they are great! Please use the link below if you would like to share the clip at home.


Monday 9th November - Diwali

Today we thought about Diwali, which is a festival of light. We talked about the story of Diwali and how people celebrate it. In class we had a go at creating our own rangoli patterns using lots of different, bright colours. Below is a link for some videos about Diwali that you might like to share at home.


Thursday 5th November - Bonfire Night

Our special learning day on Thursday 5th November was about Bonfire Night. We thought about why and how people celebrate Bonfire night and talked about the story of Guy Fawkes and the Gunpowder Plot. We then had great fun creating some fantastic fire work art and a huge rocket! A very exciting day had by all...

30th October - Wear it Pink day

Today we came to school in pink clothes as part of Breast Cancer Now's 'Wear it Pink' day. It was great to see everybody smiling in their fabulous pink clothes! Thank you to everybody who donated too.
