Summer Term

I cannot believe I am writing about our final term in Year 2! What a year it has been. We will be finishing off with a bang with our final two topics that I am sure the children will absolutely love.

What are the wonders of our world?

In this captivating Geography-based topic, we will be exploring the wonders of our world in the UK and beyond. By the end of the unit, the children will be able to:

  • name, locate and identify the seven continents and oceans

  • use world maps, atlases and globes

  • understand geographical similarities and difference when studying both human and physical geography

  • identify the location of hot and cold areas around the world

  • use vocabulary to refer to physical and human features

  • develop knowledge about the world

How have holidays changed over time?

Our final topic will be of course based on holidays! We will be learning about holidays in the 1950s and 1960s, particularly seaside holidays. In this unit, the children will:

  • learn about changes within living memory

  • understand historical concepts such as continuity and change, similarity and difference

  • identify similarities and differences between ways of life in different periods

  • ask and answer questions

  • understand some of the ways in which we find out about the past

  • identify different ways in which the past is represented

  • use parts of stories and other sources to show they know and understand key features of events

  • suggest reasons why changes took place.
